Services company and elusive prey of Computer Associates, Computer Sciences Corp, reported fourth-quarter results that showed strong revenue growth and a bottom line that edged out Wall Street estimates. The El Segundo, California company saw net income up 5.8% at $80.1m on revenue up 21.7% at $1.87bn. That amounts to $0.50 per share but – net of a $20.7m charge associated with fighting off the CA takeover attempt – EPS was $0.59, one penny better than the First Call consensus. US commercial revenue grew 25.5% to $778.6m, while European revenue rose 21.7% to $511m. Other international revenue amounted to $120.5m, up 35.9% year-over-year. US federal revenue rose 13% to $459.1m, but declined slightly from $1.64bn to $1.63bn in the full twelve months. The company says outsourcing revenue saw strong growth, although figures weren’t broken out. For the year, net income rose 35.3% to $260.4m on revenue up 17.5% at $6.6bn. Full-year results include charges of $229.1m and $48.9m for 1998 and 1997, respectively.
