The US Department of Commerce has established an email discussion list to chew over issues related to the development of the .us country-code domain. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) with the Commerce Department solicited public comments on how to develop .us last year, which has seen only about 10,000 domains registered in .us, compared to the 4 million or so in .com, .net and .org. A follow-up meeting was held in March this year at which it became clear there was a will within the internet community to do something constructive with .us to make it more useful to businesses while retaining its specific geographical trait for those who require it (03/11/99). The mailing list is open now through August 12 and information on how to join the discussion is at http://www.ntia.doc.gov.
