3dfx Interactive Inc, a US developer of high-performance 3D media processors and software for interactive gaming machines, reported a marginally smaller-than-expected third quarter loss. The San Jose, California-based company reported a net loss of $12.16m loss, or 51 cents a share, for the three months to October 31, compared to net income of $3.12m, or 20 cents, in the year ago, on revenue up 219% at $105.86m. the figures exclude $3.63m worth of goodwill charges arising from acquisitions. Analysts polled by First Call had on average been expecting the firm to show a loss of 54 cents a share, excluding goodwill charges. á
