Microsoft has launched Kinect for Windows PCs, which is its voice and motion-controlled sensor.
Using voice and gesture, it allows people to interact with computers.
Kinect for Windows General manager Craig Eisler said by offering hardware and software that’s designed specifically for Windows applications, Microsoft hopes to inspire visionaries around the world to create transformative breakthroughs with Kinect-taking its gesture and voice capabilities beyond the living room into other industries such as education, manufacturing, healthcare and retail.
Microsoft is said to working with American Express, Mattel, Toyota, among others, to develop apps for Kinect.
Microsoft is said to have already demonstrated new uses for the sensor in hospitals.
Earlier in November 2010 when Kinect was launched, Microsoft had reportedly sold 18m devices.
But, most of them have been to gamers who use Kinect to interact with their Xbox gaming consoles.
Priced at $249, it has been launched in 12 countries to begin with.
