Microsoft Corp has chosen its Tech7Ed 98 event in New Orleans between June 1-5 as the venue for its next set of announcements concerning the COM component object model and Microsoft Transaction Server middleware, where it’s expected to further open its object and transaction processing technology up to non Microsoft platforms. Microsoft licensed COM to Iona Technologies Ltd at the beginning of the year, and Digital Equipment Corp and Silicon Graphics Inc are also licensees. More partnership announcements are expected at the show. Further out, Microsoft plans to combine COM and MTS into COM+, recognizing the current trend towards object transaction servers instigated by the likes of Iona and Bea Systems Inc.
