The FBI and local police have broken up a Paramount, California counterfeit ring which pirated Microsoft products. A warehouse and other premises were raided by investigators last week. Seven people have been arrested and 10 others detained. The haul has an estimated value of $30m and includes copies of Windows 95, NT and the Office 97 suite. Under federal law, the detainees could face up to 10 years in jail and $2m in fines if found guilty of counterfeiting charges.
