Despite its name, Polish IT concern Prokom Software SA is increasingly a system designer and integrator, as is evidenced by some of the large contracts it mentioned in its 1998 results announcement yesterday. The company has been winning a number of deals with large government departments, such as one from the ministry of education for the delivery, installation and integration of computer workshops, as well as with private sector companies such as insurer Tur Warta SA for the installation of a new information system. As a result of such contracts, it announced a 77% increase in revenues last year, to $83m. It was for this reason that Microsoft president Steve Ballmer sought out Prokom CEO Ryszarda Krauze late last year for a meeting, at which they agreed that the two companies would work together on creating large information systems in Poland utilizing Microsoft’s technology for the enterprise market.
