The US conglomerate Lockheed Martin Corp, best known for its activities in the aeronautics and defense sectors, has formed a joint venture with Central Europe’s leading computer manufacturer, Optimus SA of Poland, to offer IT and systems integration (SI) services to large government and corporate customers. The venture will be called Optimus Lockheed Martin Information Technology Group (OLM-ITG), providing the US group with a well-connected partner in the Polish market, while Optimus, which is primarily engaged in low-end technologies such as PCs, moves up into the enterprise market with SI. A spokesperson for Lockheed Martin said the initial target market will be major government projects involving IT, such as tax collection, census-taking, and border control.
