San Mateo, California-based RSA Data Security Inc has released two security components written in Java. Both products are aimed at small to medium-sized ecommerce sites and third party developers who like the platform-independent programming language for its versatility and ease of use. In the Java space this is all you should need to do a security implementation, says Crypto-J product manage Mike Vergara. The BSAFE SSL-J 2.0 component suite is intended as a single package which developers can use to implement the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) v3 protocol in Java. It is intended for use in developing applications for banking, financial services and ecommerce, for example. To that end, it includes sample code, API libraries, certificate authority components, socket libraries and user and API documentation. The enhanced BSAFE Crypto-J 2.0 implements all the core RSA cryptographic standards used in major application security standards such as SSL, Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) and Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (S/MIME). Crypto-J also adds support for Java Crypto Extensions (JCE) and the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA). Software development kits for SSL-J and Crypto-J are available now for $295. Runtime licenses are available on a royalty, per- seat or annual fee basis, depending on business model.
