Wind River Systems Inc says it now supports the DiskOnChip 2000 non-volatile flash memory chip from Fremont, California-based M- Systems Flash Disk Pioneer Ltd in its Tornado development environment and VxWorks real time operating system. DiskONChip, a 32-pin, single chip part, can store up to 72MB (144Mb versions and higher are planned) and is intended to replace hard disks, battery-backed RAM and ROM devices for primary storage in embedded and single board computers. It doesn’t need a bus, slot or connector. The chip has been designed into around 200 embedded motherboards to date. M-Systems says Tornado support will help it push further into the telecom and embedded systems markets.
