Apple Computer Corp is suing one of the companies behind eMachines Inc’s eOne PC, alleging that the computer has copied the look of its best-selling iMac line. Apple has filed suit against Japanese PC maker Sotec in a Tokyo court in an attempt to block sales of the translucent blue eOne. Apple has already taken action against eMachines in the US, filing in the San Jose federal court at the end of last week. EMachines is a joint venture between Sotec and two Korean manufacturers, TriGem Computers and Korean Data Systems.
Emachines introduced its first computers to the US earlier this month through Circuit City Stores Inc. The eOne PC incorporates the processor unit and monitor in an all-in-one case. The machine runs Windows, uses a 433MHz Celeron chip and costs $799. The PCs went on sale in Japan in July. Anxious to protect what it regards as valuable intellectual property, Apple filed two similar complaints on July 1 against Santa Clara-based Future Power Inc and its chief backer Daewoo Telecom Ltd.
