Web3000 Inc will today announce its first big distribution deal, with Infoseek Corp, for a co-branded version of its NetSonic internet accelerator, downloadable from Infoseek’s website. NetSonic works by caching previously-visited sites in its own cache and then only updating things that have changed when the site is revisited. This is the free version of NetSonic – the Pro version launched late last month adds various optimization and automation features and costs $40 (10/26/98). In addition, Web3000 will close its first round of venture capital funding tomorrow, but does not plan to announce how much or who has contributed the money. All we know is that it is expected to be close to $1m and from a VC company local to the Seattle, Washington-based software company. To date, Web3000 has seen around 540,000 downloads of the free version of NetSonic.
