Locust was the oldest text messaging community, originally developed to route email to and from mobile handsets. It blossomed into a community of people who used the system to chat in groups and seek help on particular subjects through ‘channels.’ The 600 current members were extremely disappointed with Orange and even set up a campaign against the moves.
Orange pulled the tariff to simplify pricing and because the service was not cost effective, and is currently in the process of transferring the remaining customers onto other tariffs. Orange, owned by France Telecom, has pipeline plans to set up whole range of new, value-added, text messaging services for customers.
