The prospect the first Asian 3G license auction has the Taiwanese telecoms regulator, the Directorate General of Telecommunications, licking its lips with anticipation. The seven bidders are likely to bring about a hugely competitive field, as they fight for the five licenses.
The existing GSM networks Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Cellular and Far EasTone head the running, although they face stiff competition from KG Telecom, 3GO, Union Telecom and local landline operator Eastern Broadband Telecom.
The auction is to be held in January.
