Infosys is using the money to build a second campus in Madras, Chennai, which will seat 5,000 employees on a newly acquired 129-acre plot. The Bangalore-based company already employs 2,400 people in the southern city.

The company had only just announced a few weeks ago that it would make a separate INR 2.5 bn ($55m) investment in a new 5,000-seat site in Pune, where it already employs 2,200 people.

Just before that announcement, Infosys also said it would commence development operations from the Indian state of Kerala, with a 50-person facility to open in Thiruvananthapuram by January 1, 2004.

Infosys has development centers in Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Mysore, Mohali and Pune.
