Eclipse is attempting to build a flexible, plug-in architecture for inter-operability between different vendors’ tools. Prominent members include IBM Corp, Intel Corp, Hewlett Packard Company, Red Hat Inc, and Fujitsu.
SAS’ decision to join can be seen as the company’s continued attempt to break its proprietary tag and open its technology to standards-based development and operating environments.
SAS is already actively involved in other standards organizations such as the Global Grid Forum, Java Community Process, Object Management Group, and XML/A Council and Data Mining Group.
