The service will be a novel one in the US since only another five carriers offer a ringtone download service. The demand for downloads for phones is small in the US with an estimated 100,000 people engaging in such activities.
Verizon is not too worried about this since it has not invested a great deal of money on the project. Selling at $1 per snippet, it shouldn’t be too difficult for the company to profit on the service.
The downloads will be compatible on phones that use Qualcommn’s new operating system. Movisco will be handling the new service for a cut of the profits.
