Sony Ericsson goes east

Sony Ericsson has won approval from the Chinese government to start operations in the country. The mobile phone manufacturing joint venture is also creating a new centre for research and development in Beijing.

Sony Ericsson China will begin shipping its T68ie and T202 handsets as the start of full-scale operations in China. The company will also launch a full product portfolio for the Chinese market.

The new research and development centre in Beijing should enable Sony Ericsson to create a product portfolio that reflects Chinese usage of mobile phones.
