Acterna, a member of Sonus’ Open Services Partner Alliance, also announced that Sonus has joined its Strategic Alliance Program.

Through this partnership, Sonus combines components of its voice infrastructure solution set, including the GSX9000 Open Services Switch, the PSX6000 SoftSwitch and Sonus Insight Element Management System (EMS), with Acterna’s traffic data collection and engineering product, NetOptimize Capacity Manager operational support system (OSS). The Acterna and Sonus solution enables complete service assurance for softswitch-based networks via traffic engineering for equipment servicing, trunk forecasting, load balancing, toll separations, marketing studies and service level exceptions.

With this combined solution, Acterna and Sonus offer a system to optimize utilization of voice and data services throughout the network, said Stephen Collins, vice president, marketing, Sonus Networks. The system, which leverages Sonus Insight’s powerful traffic management capabilities, allows carriers to simplify traffic data collection processes and enables them to optimize network resources.

Through our collaborative program with Sonus, service providers can realize important operational efficiencies because traffic engineers can ensure network element utilization, said Andrew Hurrell, director of marketing, Acterna Systems and Software Group. The Capacity Manager OSS assesses switch utilization and enables network service providers to accurately forecast when capacity needs to be added to the network.

Acterna’s NetOptimize Capacity Manager is switch-technology independent and supports data collection from both standard and emerging technologies including digital central office switches, ATM switches, frame relay switches, wireless switches, private branch exchanges, SS7 networks, and even computer networks. With NetOptimize Capacity Manager, all switching technologies are covered with a single, centralized data collection operations system. In addition, NetOptimize Capacity Manager can be scaled to accommodate small or large networks. NetOptimize Capacity Manager is installed in networks with switch counts ranging from a few to thousands. NetOptimize Capacity Manager’s scalable architecture meets service provider needs today and provides expansion as the network grows.
