In its press release, the FCC stated that US consumers will benefit from the effects of the proposed merger, which will include the build-out and extension of VoiceStream’s network – significantly expanding VoiceStream’s national and international reach. US consumers also will benefit from the resulting increase in competition in mobile services, including new communications services and new features.

The merger is under review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS). Upon receipt of this final approval, the companies expect to complete the transactions at the end of May 2001.
