Ericsson will be responsible for the set up of the network in Uttar Pradesh West, Uttar Pradesh East, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. The five-year contract is worth $135 million.

Motorola won contracts worth $178 million and will be providing the network for parts of Southern India including Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

In total, the project will be connecting over 280 cities, and theoretically, could add up to 1.4 million subscribers for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) which is only the third company to become a national cellular operator in India.
