Walker and Associates will immediately begin selling Symmetricom’s GoLong ADSL loop extender to telephone companies that wish to significantly expand the reach of their DSL services.

Laboratory and field trials in New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, North Carolina, Montana and Canada proved that GoLong extends data rates at a minimum of 1.5 Mbps downstream and 256 kbps upstream, further than the current 18,000-foot barrier to 30,000 feet. GoLong can now serve customers currently being turned away by the telephone company due to distance limitation of existing ADSL technologies.

As a market leader in the supply of telephone equipment to Independent Telephone Operating Companies and Competitive Local Exchange Carriers, Walker is continuously looking for ways of expanding our product offerings. We have already received a significant number of inquiries about GoLong from our current service provider customers, all of whom wish to expand the geographical reach of their DSL service area.

Industry experts estimate that 30-50% of potential broadband Internet customers are being turned away from DSL service due to current distance limitations, said Don Skipwith, vice president of business development at Symmetricom. Offering extended services using Golong will enable Telephone companies to quickly expand their DSL installations allowing them to maintain and grow their customer base. Service providers that embrace GoLong will greatly improve the likelihood of keeping their customers on net.
