The new entrant UK mobile operator, majority-owned by Hong Kong’s Hutchison Whampoa, is also making progress with its high-speed network. It has begun demonstrating the service to city analysts, showing them working 3G handsets that ran several 3G applications.

Hutchinson is continuing with its plan to launch its 3G network in Q4 2002. The network will cover around 40% of the UK population at the time of launch.
