O2 Germany has commissioned Marconi with a four-year contract. The company expects to have its 3G services up and running during 2003. Marconi will supply O2 with its Marconi Digital Radio System (MDRS), a point-to-point microwave radio system family for short-haul and long-haul applications. Using this it will deliver bandwidth for access, feeder and back-haul applications.

Karl-Wilhelm Rohrsen, CTO of O2 Germany says, Marconi was able to prove that they have the right technology to meet our roll out requirements and builds on our long-term partnership with Marconi.

Troubled Marconi hopes that it will soon become a major contender for other 3G supply contracts in Europe, through building long-term customer relationships and by providing reliable, proven transmission networks.
