The BCM5812 CryptoNetX will have a throughput of up to 80Mbps, which should be sufficient to eliminate VPN bottlenecks on such small networks. The chip features built-in PCI and support for AES, the Advanced Encryption Standard cryptographic algorithm.

These types of processors are designed to speed up intensive cryptographic functions by moving them to dedicated silicon, freeing up CPU time. Broadcom said the 5812 is sampling this week, with production quantities expected to be available in the second quarter.
