Sony’s share price was hit by a Nihon Keizai newspaper report on Thursday that put the cost of handset recalls this year at ¥20bn-¥23bn, eating into Sony’s estimate of ¥150bn group net profit this year.
Sony in May recalled handsets for DoCoMo and KDDI, two Japanese mobile operators, while the latest recall came on Wednesday when KDDI said it would recall 560,000 handsets made by the world’s second-largest consumer electronics maker.
The company said it would provide more details when it reports quarterly earnings later this month.
Sony’s shares hit six-month lows on Thursday, and closed down 4.48% to ¥7,250 on Friday.
