The wholly foreign-owned enterprise is based in the Zhongguancun Software Park in the Haidian District of Beijing. The company, called webMethods Software Development (Beijing) Co Ltd, will develop and manufacture webMethods software for the Chinese market. The efforts will include working with local development partners to create adapters for local Chinese software applications. As part of its WFOE commitment, webMethods said it also intends to open a branch office in Shanghai in early 2004.

Since establishing operations in Beijing in May 2002, webMethods has won customers in China including China Mobile Communications, Shanghai General Motors, Sinotrans Air, Semiconductor Manufacturing International (Shanghai), China Merchants Logistics, Digital China, Sundian, Xiao Tong Electronic, ECCOM, and EAS.

The company also has a joint Global Development Center in Shanghai with BearingPoint for joint global software development and support efforts.
