The Sunnyvale, California-based company has forged new technology partnerships with WebEx Communications Inc and BEA Systems Inc that will enhance the capabilities of its Yahoo! Messenger Enterprise Edition (EE) software with Web conferencing, business process collaboration and presence-aware custom instant messaging (IM) solutions.

Yahoo! Messenger EE is the enterprise version of the now ubiquitous public Yahoo! Messenger IM service. The software, which is licensed on an annual subscription basis, combines real-time collaboration tools (text messaging, SMS, file transfer and Webcam) with functions such as message encryption, virus scanning and administrative controls of user authentication.

The next major release of Messenger EE will allow users to launch WebEx meetings directly from their desktops – specifically leveraging WebEx’s MediaTone Network to share applications (such as QuickBooks, Excel or Powerpoint) with integrated video, IP voice and telephone conferencing.

BEA’s will integrate core business process capabilities, through its WebLogic Workshop module, a drag-and-drop development environment. Developers can use the tool to connect to and use Messenger EE to build presence and IM-based applications using a special Yahoo! Messenger Control for Workshop ‘bot’ that can be integrated into back-end business applications such as sales force automation and CRM.

The integration of the technology sets was facilitated by IT consulting and systems integrator firm Accenture LLC, which recently introduced Yahoo! Messenger in BEA for its eSupport application.
