We conducted a thorough evaluation of the leading search technology providers to find a search solution that would deliver a consistent high-quality online search experience to our users in Asia, said Bill Bliss, general manager of MSN Search at Microsoft Corp. We selected Inktomi for its proven technology and business model as well as its commitment to continual innovation in search.
With more than 230 million unique users worldwide, the MSN network of integrated services is the largest portal in the world. Internet traffic is growing rapidly in the Asian market requiring a robust search technology service that can scale globally. Inktomi will leverage its strong Web search presence in Japan and Korea as well as the extensive language capabilities in the 4.0 version of Inktomi Search Software to provide MSN with highly accurate Asian language search results. Additionally, Inktomi Search/Web recently rolled out new relevance modeling, content blending and Internet crawling technologies to offer users continually enhanced search relevance, easier access to the most accurate search results from multiple content sources and a fresher, broader search index.
We are pleased to deepen our longstanding relationship with MSN and extend our presence in Asia, said Troy Toman, vice president and general manager, Inktomi Search Solutions. Inktomi search technology will allow MSN to provide its users worldwide with access to highly accurate, comprehensive search results, regardless of language.
MSN expects to deploy the Inktomi-powered search throughout its Asian properties this summer.
