Enterprise app leaders have launched App Configuration for Enterprise (ACE), a solution for managing apps in the workplace across all enterprise mobility management (EMM) platforms.

AirWatch by VMware, Box, Cisco, Workday and Xamarin have created a standardised solution, using APIs from iOS and Android to smooth integration between app developers and EMM platforms.

Standards on ACE include automation of the first-time setup experience and the securing of app connectivity to corporate networks. In addition, ACE avoids separate user login requirements for every app through a single sign-on.

ACE also emphasises security, allowing access to corporate apps only on secure and compliant devices, while preventing leakage through open in and copy and paste controls. It also has the capacity to wipe corporate data from lost or stolen devices.

Developers using the platform will have no proprietary software development kit or app wrapping, as well as the ability to create completely vendor-neutral applications. The standards remove the necessity for coding for some security settings.

For enterprises, the solution offers the opportunity for a seamless integration of apps and to use their existing investments in EMM, VPN and identity.

"AirWatch is focused on driving mobile innovation and ACE enables us to work with the leading brands in mobile to deliver better experiences for our customers," said John Marshall, senior vice president and general manager, AirWatch by VMware.

Marshall added: "With ACE, organisations benefit from seamless and secure application delivery to their workforce and end users benefit from a more initiative business app experience."

Steve Chazin, vice president of Cloud Collaboration at Cisco, commented: "Cisco connects people across any device and improves how employees collaborate with chat, audio and video using Cisco Jabber.

"With ACE, we’re solving usability and security challenges many businesses encounter when deploying mobile applications. We believe this open standard will simplify IT rollout and offer more opportunities for our customers to experience better mobile collaboration."
