The combined strengths of the two companies will provide TV operators with a fully integrated and tested DVB solution for content distribution.

Receiving the Integration Certificate from Nagravision is the latest addition to the broad spectrum of BitMizer capabilities, and firmly establishes it as one of the most powerful MPEG-2 multiplexer on the market today, explained Sam Lim, vice president and general manager of Scientific-Atlanta’s Media Networks business. Nagravision’s conditional access allows us to offer customers a choice that is independent of the hardware and content supply chains. It is a proven system widely deployed around the world in direct-to-consumer cable, satellite, DTT and MMDS systems.

When operating in conjunction with the Nagravision system, the BitMizer multiplexer performs the scrambling of services using the DVB common scrambling algorithm, synchronizing scrambling control words using the DVB interface specification. Entitlement control and management information, as well as service information such as program guide data, is produced by the Nagravision conditional access system and injected into the transport stream by the BitMizer multiplexer for control of the set top box population. Other advanced capabilities of the BitMizer multiplexer can operate in conjunction with the Nagravision conditional access, including temporal adaptive statistical remultiplexing, and opportunistic insertion of data into the transport stream.

Following our strategy to integrate our Conditional Access solutions as widely as possible, it’s important our customers have now a fully tested option to choose Scientific-Atlanta’s PowerVu content distribution systems, said Ron Wing, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing for Nagravision. We look forward to the opportunity to work closely with Scientific-Atlanta as it continues to deploy its systems around the world.
