The new technology, which is composed of thin film memory elements made of a material called perovskite, uses resistors as opposed to the transistors and capacitors used in traditional memory chips. It is thought the new technology could also eventually make computer hard drives redundant, and lower the price of PCs.
Sharp has not yet decided how it will distribute the technology, or whether it will license it to other manufacturers.
