Samsung unveiled its next generation Galaxy smartphones dubbed Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, in what is reported as an attempt by the company to reclaim its lost glory in the global smartphone market.
According to reports, Samsung’s arch-rival Apple, with its advanced big screen iPhone 6 and 6 Plus pushed Samsung off from its top position as the top smartphone maker in the world.
The S6 edge has a 5.1 inch display which is curved on both sides and the casing is made from light-weight metal used in airplanes along with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for the display.
According to Samsung, the camera of S6 and S6 edge has brighter and faster 16MP front and 5MP rear camera with F1.9 lenses.
Samsung has introduced a new feature dubbed "Quick Launch" which is aimed at giving users direct access to the camera from any screen in 0.7 seconds.
For the new phones, the smartphone maker parted ways with Qualcomm and opted for 64-bit, 14-nanometer Exynos processors along with 3GB RAM and internal memory options of 32/64/128GB.
The new 2,550mAh battery in S6 and the 2,600mAh battery in the S6 Edge are irreplaceable. However, it will support wireless charging.
Samsung has also improved wired charging 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5.
As a rival to Apple Pay service, Samsung has introduced Samsung Pay payment service, which will facilitate fingerprint scanning and advanced tokenization for making payments using the new phones.
Initially the services will be limited to the US and Samsung’s home market South Korea.
Samsung has collaborated with US banks and credit card companies including Visa and MasterCard for the service, reported Reuters.
