Experts believe the deal will represent a massive boost for Amazon’s struggling electronics, tools and kitchen unit. The unit made a $20 million operating loss on $126 million in sales during Q1. Amazon’s profit margins will be increased now that the company can obtain products directly from Sony, rather than paying fees for goods acquired through middlemen.
Sony settles agreement to distribute goods to Amazon.com
Sony has given Amazon.com permission to sell its range of electronics goods. Amazon will now sell Sony's handheld devices and personal computers, as well as its digital and audio equipment. Sony agreed to distribute its products to Amazon after the online retailer decided to stop selling Sony products acquired from unauthorized sources. Despite the agreement, Amazon will still not be allowed to sell other Sony products such as televisions and DVD players.
