Japan’s top mobile operator also reported a drop of some 44% in first time contracts. DoCoMo 334,000 new users in May, compared with 592,000 in April, bringing the company’s total number of subscribers to 36.62 million.

For the domestic market as a whole the figure reached 69.69 million in May.

The reason for May being such a slow month is the fact that there is nearly a whole week of public holidays included, while in march and April Japan’s educational and business year are renewed forging newe demand as people return to school and work.

KDDI Corp.’s mobile arm reported 152,800 new users, the second of the company’s mobile operations also reported 16,800 new users.

Cumulatively KDDI’s wireless units now total 15.4 million subscribers, making up for 24.6% of Japan’s mobile phone market.
