Hortonworks, a contributor and provider of enterprise Apache Hadoop, has announced mixed fourth quarter 2014 and full fiscal year results.

The company issued total GAAP revenue of $46 million which represents an increase of 91% compared to the prior year.

The companies first quarterly earnings as a publicly held company show revenue for the fourth quarter 2014 at $12.7 million, which shows an increase of 55% compared to the previous year.

Perhaps worryingly for shareholders is an operating loss for the fourth quarter 2014 totalling $92.5 million, which is up significantly from the previous year for the same period ($14.7million).

Meanwhile, billings for the company have also shown great increase in the fourth quarter as they were at $31.9 million, a 148% increase over the same period of the previous year and a 48% increase over the third year 2014. Its fiscal year billings were $87.1 million, a 134% increase over 2013.

Rob Bearden, chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer, Hortonworks, said: "We are very pleased with our strong fourth quarter performance highlighted by billings growth of 148% year-over-year."
