Motorola, Inc. and EarthLink, the nation’s second largest Internet service provider, today announced a new partnership to offer mobile EarthLink e-mail services on the Motorola Talkabout(R) 2-way model T900. As one of the world’s leading providers of personal communications solutions for young, active, techno-savvy consumers, Motorola offers a fun and user-friendly mobile connection for one of EarthLink’s primary target audiences. This new partnership will provide a mobile e-mail solution for the consumer, bringing together the structure of an existing online community and the freedom of mobile access on a proven handheld device.
As part of its effort to deliver the consumer promise of its EarthLink Everywhere initiative, EarthLink selected Motorola’s Talkabout T900, one of the leading two-way text messaging devices with more than 750,000 units shipped in the U.S. since its introduction in May 2000. EarthLink’s EarthLink Everywhere initiative is designed to identify and deliver new technologies, in both products and access platforms, which empower their subscribers and provide complete e-mail solutions.
In today’s fast-paced society, consumers are demanding more effective ways to connect. This new partnership between Motorola and EarthLink now frees consumers of a PC-dependent world and lets them take their electronic conversations with them wherever they choose to go, said Mike Pellon, vice president and general manager, Wireless Messaging, Motorola. With EarthLink, we are providing a wireless solution that lets the consumer be in control of when and how they connect and communicate.
As the Internet evolves, e-mail continues to be the leading Net-based application, said EarthLink’s Lance Weatherby, executive vice president of the ISP’s EarthLink Everywhere initiative. By employing Motorola’s leading two-way messaging technology in the Talkabout T900, we are offering our subscribers the simplicity of a seamless e-mail connection – from the home PC to the subscriber’s handheld T900.
The pocket-sized Talkabout T900 provides EarthLink subscribers with an extension of their primary EarthLink e-mail and allows them to send and receive messages without being tied to their PC. EarthLink subscribers will be able to direct their existing EarthLink e-mail accounts to be delivered to their handheld device, where they can reply, forward, delete and store e-mails. With the Talkabout T900, users will be able to send e-mails to any e-mail address, including Internet addresses, other Talkabout T900 units and other wireless devices.
Making it easy to take e-mail on the road, the Talkabout T900 weighs less than four ounces and is only about the size of a large pack of gum. This little package includes a full QWERTY keyboard and four-line display screen that allow for easy reading and composing of messages. The Talkabout T900’s address book accommodates information for up to 250 contacts and makes it easy to remember important numbers and e-mail addresses for friends, family and colleagues.
