During an official demonstration of the network several representatives of the Orange group and of Alcatel had the opportunity to communicate through 3G mobile systems, and access information, image and video online

The radio systems, which include the UMTS base stations supplied by Alcatel were developed and produced by Evolium SAS, the joint venture between Alcatel and Fujitsu.

Didier Quillot of Orange France said to the press, field trials are the key to success. Respecting the delivery calendar of the experimental and pre-commercial systems by Alcatel, allows us to foresee the technical opening of the UMTS network by the end of 2002.

Testing 3rd generation infrastructure is part of Orange France’s UMTS program, which is being followed by its deployment in Paris, according to the contractual framework signed with Alcatel for the supply of a 3rd generation mobile communication network in France.
