The new division, NEC Interchannel, will be headed up by Clint Kurahashi, a former senior vice president at Capcom, and plans to develop titles for GameCube, GBA, PS2 and Xbox – although the first game, Tube Slider, will be exclusive to the GameCube.

NEC was at one point a contender in the console wars, with the TurboGrafx-16 platform, but of late its main involvement in the games industry has been as a manufacturer for many parts of Nintendo’s GameCube console. The re-establishment of a third party publishing division at the company marks a new confidence in the games industry at the company.

With the wealth of video gaming experience and resources here at NEC, we hope to make an impact in the coming years, commented Mr Kurahashi, whose new title at the company will be executive vice-president.
