The Japanese electronics giant turned in sales of JPY2,307bn ($19bn), up 1.2%. Operating income was JPY199.5bn ($1.7bn) up 25.8%, while net income was JPY125.4bn ($1bn), up 95.9%. For the year to date, sales were JPY5,819bn ($48.5bn), up 2.2%, while net income was up 991.4% to JPY226.7bn ($1.9bn).

The company’s electronics unit turned in sales of JPY1,468bn ($12.2bn), down 4.6%, and operating income up 14% to JPY82.1bn ($685m). Amongst other products with significant increases in sales it identified its semiconductor and PDA lines. Its Vaio PCs and CRT computer displays were cited amongst products showing significant decreases in sales.

The company said its forecasts for the full year remain unchanged. This calls for sales of JPY7,600bn ($62.8bn) with net income of JPY180bn ($1.5bn).
