Dell said today a 43-percent year-over-year increase in total unit shipments was driven by even larger growth in server volumes, as the company achieved a strong revenue increase and industry-leading profitability during its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended Feb. 2. Dell accounted for 30 percent of worldwide server growth, expanding at more than three times the rate of the industry and adding two full points of market share in that product category. Dell increased its share of the overall computer-systems market by at least two points.

Absent a one-time pretax charge of $105 million primarily associated with job reductions and consolidation of facilities, fourth-quarter net income rose 16 percent from the year-ago period to $508 million, or 18 cents per share. Net revenue totaled $8.7 billion, a 28-percent increase. Full-year revenue totaled $31.9 billion, up 26 percent. Fiscal-2001 net income rose 24 percent to $2.3 billion, or 84 cents per share, excluding nonrecurring charges.

Reported net income was $434 million, or 16 cents per share, for the fourth quarter, and $2.18 billion, or 79 cents per share, for the full year.
