At the moment, BT Broadcast Services routes the majority of the UK’s broadcast content via the BT Tower, and has the capacity to take various different feeds of media formats, including Forbidden’s. Using the BTBS solution, any content owner or broadcaster can offer streaming content to mobile phone operators.

Forbidden Technologies was founded in 1998 and specializes in creating video compression technology that allows video to be played via wireless or fixed line. Since its foundation, the company has been waiting for the roll-out of broadband and 3G networks to speed the uptake of its technology.

In the six months to June 30, 2002, it reported a loss of 147,906 pounds ($233,380), compared with a net loss of 87,386 pounds ($137,886) in the same period in 2001. It reported revenue of 5,350 pounds ($8,441) compared with just 691 pounds ($1,090) in 2001. Cash balances remained strong at 2.9m pounds ($4.6m).

On news of the announcement, Forbidden’s shares rose 28% to 0.33 pence (52 cents).
