A KPN official said: We have said that we want to strengthen our position in Germany – either by organic growth or by an acquisition. That would be O2 there. However, the company said that no talks are underway with O2 at the moment.

KPN’s comments came on the day when O2 announced that the CEO of its German operation Rudi Groger was to join the company’s main board and it praised the way he had driven improvements in the performance of the operations.

The subsidiary now has a 7.87 market share and generated its first positive earnings at the EBITDA level six months ahead of guidance.
