Traditional product trade-in programs are often implemented as a promotional vehicle for a limited time to replace one product type, such as an oscilloscope, with a newer model, leaving the sponsoring manufacturer with inventory that cannot be resold. Under the Tektronix/Telogy program, which accepts test instrumentation equipment from a variety of industry manufacturers, Tektronix grants trade-in value on a used instrument to a customer purchasing a new instrument. Telogy purchases and manages the used trade-in assets directly, refurbishing and reselling the equipment for its own inventory.
This is the first partnership of its kind, within our industry, where our computer and communications customers have the opportunity to trade in Tektronix or competitive units as they upgrade to new models of instrumentation, said Michael Oliveri, vice president of Americas region sales, Tektronix, Inc. It is a unique program as it offers Tektronix a competitive edge with no risk, it provides Telogy with access to additional equipment, and it provides our customers a great deal of flexibility when upgrading to a new product. This is a particularly ideal program for customers in fast growing markets who may have limited annual capital equipment budget, yet have the need for the latest instrumentation to stay competitive.
Telogy has made a tremendous investment in creating a robust web site that quickly and efficiently serves the needs of Tektronix’ salespeople and their customers, said Don Sinclair, vice president of sales, Telogy, Inc. We are excited to partner with an industry leader such as Tektronix on such a unique program that provides us with an increase in instrumentation to our resale division.
With Telogy’s web site, Tektronix’ US sales staff can access a list of eligible products using secured links from the Tektronix intranet site. Updated in real-time, the list includes the model number, list price and buy price. A salesperson can click on a particular model, select any options the trade-in instrument supports, and the Web site automatically totals the price that Telogy will pay for the used equipment.
