This was the major finding of a survey of senior IT decision makers at 250 European companies by Computer Sciences Corp [CSC], which revealed that 75% of UK companies surveyed had long-term IT services or business processes contracts compared to just 38% across the rest of Europe.

The survey also highlighted the trend towards multi-sourcing – whereby a client works with a number of best-of-breed IT services partners rather than a single vendor. Some 90% of respondents said they would prefer to manage a number of best-of-breed suppliers.

The argument behind this approach says using multiple suppliers can provide businesses with access to high levels of expertise, although it requires more time and effort for businesses in both the selection of outsourcing providers and ongoing management.
