Lizard Squad is claiming to have resumed attacks on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network (PSN), in a return to form for the hacking group.

Taking to Twitter the hackers boasted that Xbox Live was about to be brought offline, several hours after they claimed responsibility for "network issues" on PSN.

The group also took the opportunity to mock internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom, who attempted to buy off Lizard Squad during the wave of attacks on gaming networks around Christmas with vouchers for his storage service Mega.

The alleged attacks prompted yet more calls for hackers to take down Lizard Squad, requests which Anonymous splinter groups have previously answered, albeit unsuccessfully in the long term.

Lizard Squad has previously attempted to draw publicity itself with attacks on gaming networks, which it has then exploited in an attempt to sell distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.

Since then the group has announced plans to expand into online drug peddling, as well as spamming and "black" search engine optimisation (SEO) services, though precise details of this have not been forthcoming.

Last week CBR reported that former Lizard Squad member Abdilo has been targeting NHS websites by posting vulnerabilities online, having progressed to attacking government and academic institutions since parting ways with the group.
