Personal data breached as fans buy Adele tour tickets

News: Fans take to social media to expose system’s insecurities.

By Joao Lima

Adele‘s first tour in five years, scheduled for 2016, has seen the Ticketmaster website crash and expose user details.

The website was open at 9am this morning and took less than a minute for servers to go down according to users who voiced their disappointment on Twitter.

In a message, users were told that "one of our servers is down and has issued a cry for help to our engineering swat team. (…) We very much appreciate your patience."

Once the system was back up and running again, a second issue occurred exposing fans’ data.

Those looking to buy tickets for the "when we were young" tour said on Twitter they were shown screens of other people’s card details, home addresses and the tickets they had purchased.

In a statement, sales organiser Songkick, said: "Due to extreme load experienced this morning, some of our customers were incorrectly able to preview limited account information belonging to other customers.

"There’s no evidence that this included credit card numbers or passwords. We take the privacy of our users very seriously, and we’re looking further into the matter to ensure it doesn’t happen again."

Adele’s recently launched album has sold over 3.38 million copies in its first week on sale in the US. The tour will start on February 29, 2016, at the SSE Arena in Belfast.
