UK tech start-ups are increasingly looking abroad for expansion, with ease of business proving a key factor in attracting them.

A survey by YouGov and spearheaded by Singapore‘s technology arm, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), found that 15 percent of start-ups have already expanded their business abroad.

In addition, 17 percent have plans to grow at least part of their business overseas and 19 percent are considering international expansion in the future.

According to respondents, ease of doing business was the strongest factor in deciding where to expand to, with 79 percent citing it as a factor.

A strong public infrastructure was another key concern, cited by 72 percent, while policies and regulations that support innovation were considered key by 70 percent.

The research surveyed 193 UK-based tech start-ups with less than 5 years in operation.
