UK based network infrastructure provider CityFibre has joined forces with HighNet to build a fibre to the premise (FTTP) network in Glasgow.
The companies plan to strart the deployment of the ultra-fast, pure fibre network in Glasgow early next year, which is expected to connect around 15,000 businesses with network speeds of up to 1Gbps.
The project is expected to benefit Glasgow’s digital infrastructure by providing internet connectivity with up to 100 times faster than the UK average.
CityFibre will start the first phase of deployment in Glasgow city centre, and HighNet’s channel partner customers will be the first ones to make use of it.
According to CityFibre, around 7,000 city centre businesses will be within close reach of the fibre network, which will later expand to other businesses through HighNet’s channel partner network.
CityFibre CEO Greg Mesch said: "HighNet have made this project possible and their strong customer base and impressive partner network will be crucial to its success.
"This announcement marks our third Gigabit City project in Scotland, and upon its completion, CityFibre will have an established network presence in Scotland’s four largest cities, making us the largest wholesale fibre infrastructure provider in the country after BT Openreach."
CityFibre operates in several UK cities, including Peterborough, Coventry, Aberdeen, Coventry, and York, and CityFibre expects the deployment of the new network to form a backbone for a future deployment of a gigabit-capable fibre-to-the-home access network.
