It means Vonage can now market to new customers in geographies where it provides enhanced 911, or E911 services.

According to a US Federal Communications Commission mandate, companies are prohibited from marketing to or accepting new subscribers in regions where E911 is unavailable.

As of the FCC’s late-November deadline, more than 200 VoIP companies in the country said they were unable to provide E911 to all their customers, in part because regional phone operators were slow to give them access to crucial 911 infrastructure.

Vonage had said in early December that only about 90% of its customers had E911.
